The SBA Loan Guarantee Program is designed to help entrepreneurs start or expand their small businesses. The program guarantees certain portions of business loans made by lenders that conform to its guidelines. The program makes capital of up to $5 million available to small businesses. SBA microloans are also available to some businesses for amounts of $35,000 to $50,000.

SBA loans in general have a longer repayment period, with lower payments and looser criteria than standard commercial business loans. A popular use of a SBA loan is for commercial mortgages, as they require smaller down payments than a traditional commercial business loan, and don’t require a 5 year refinance plan. This allows small businesses to access capital with lower upfront costs.
